HoleMole #3 Core Hole Former – 4.5–6.75in (114–171mm)
Description
HoleMole #3 Core Hole Former – 4.5–6.75in (114–171mm)
- Designed for 114–171mm openings: Suitable for measured concrete core holes between 4.5 and 6.75 inches in diameter.
- Versatile mid-range option: HoleMole #3 sits at the centre of the five-size range, making it suitable for many medium slab penetrations.
- Strong permanent former: Manufactured from durable 16-gauge galvanised steel to support the repair material beneath the slab.
HoleMole #3 is the middle size in the five-part HoleMole range. Designed for concrete core holes from 4.5 to 6.75 inches, approximately 114 to 171mm, it provides a practical solution for medium-sized slab openings that are too large for the #2 former but do not require the reinforced larger #4 or #5 sizes.
The system replaces many of the temporary-access stages associated with traditional core-hole filling. From the upper working level, the installer connects the threaded rod, folds the perimeter sections and lowers the Mole through the opening. Once below the slab, the sections return to position and the rod pulls the former into a secure seating position ready to support the project-specified repair material.
Manufactured from 16-gauge galvanised steel, HoleMole #3 includes bendable positioning tabs and one 24-inch threaded aluminium rod. It is compatible with the reusable HoleMole Stand, fast-action SpeedNut and Speed Chute. For UK orders and technical product-selection support, Cable Glands UK supplies the HoleMole system from Manchester to projects nationwide.
Important: Supplied as 1 × HoleMole #3 with 1 × 24-inch (approximately 610mm) threaded rod. The HoleMole application tools, Wall Applicator and filling material are separate products.
Key Features
Key Features of HoleMole #3

Applications
Typical Uses for the 114–171mm HoleMole
HoleMole #3 is suited to medium concrete penetrations in construction, refurbishment and planned maintenance environments.
- Commercial buildings: Repairing medium slab cores created for relocated or removed building services.
- Data centres and technical facilities: Making good redundant openings where the complete repair specification is appropriate.
- Industrial upgrades: Closing measured penetrations during equipment replacement or service rerouting.
- Multi-level refurbishments: Helping reduce interference with teams or occupants on the floor below.
- Vertical openings: Compatible with the Wall Applicator where wall installation has been approved for the project.
How to Use
How to Install HoleMole #3
- Measure the opening and confirm that the narrowest and widest clear diameters remain within the 114–171mm product range.
- Prepare the concrete substrate and mix the approved repair material in accordance with the relevant instructions.
- Fasten the supplied rod to HoleMole #3 and fold the perimeter sections sufficiently to pass through the core.
- Lower the Mole below the slab and pull upwards until it is correctly seated. Confirm its position before loading it with repair material.
- Fit the stand over the opening, secure the rod using the SpeedNut and attach the Speed Chute.
- Place the repair material without dislodging the former, finish the surface and remove the reusable equipment only when permitted by the installation method.
Important: Do not treat the HoleMole component as evidence of a completed firestop or structural repair. Performance comes from the full tested or engineered system selected for the opening.
FAQs
Is HoleMole #3 suitable for a 150mm core hole?
Yes. A correctly measured 150mm opening falls within the approximate 114–171mm range of HoleMole #3. The opening condition and required seating must still be checked before installation.
What imperial hole range does size #3 cover?
It is designed for openings from 4.5 to 6.75 inches in diameter.
Is the installation rod included?
Yes. Each HoleMole #3 is supplied with one 24-inch threaded aluminium rod, approximately 610mm long.
Can it be used in a concrete wall?
Size #3 includes bendable tabs and can be used with the compatible Wall Applicator where the manufacturer’s instructions and project design allow.
Do I need access beneath the slab?
The system is designed so the Mole can be lowered and seated from above, reducing the normal need to fix a temporary support from underneath. Site assessment and safe access planning remain the contractor’s responsibility.
What happens to the Mole after filling?
The Mole remains beneath the repair as the former. The stand, SpeedNut and Speed Chute are taken away and reused.
